The House of the Seven Gables
A new take on Hawthorne’s classic novel:
Our episodic adaptation of The House of the Seven Gables tells the story of the once-great Pyncheon family, haunted by the history of their once-great mansion in 19th-century Salem, Massachusetts.
Proudly filmed on location, our pilot episode sets the stage for a ghostly Romance that honors the original text while integrating themes fit for a discerning, modern audience.
Who might you find at the house?
Hepzibah Pyncheon
Played by Liz Bishop
Current owner of the house. The family's poverty has necessitated the opening of a Cent Shop in the side of the building, much to the chagrin of the neighborhood busybodies. She is late into her 60s, bears a permanent scowl wrinkled into her face, and is frequently dressed in mismatching clothes and a turban that covers most of her hair.
Phillip Pyncheon
Played by Mike Pratt
Hepzibah's sunshiny cousin from the city who turns up unexpectedly at the house at the worst possible time. Though his assistance in the Cent Shop is transformative, his desire to know more about his potential connection to the fraught history of the house could put everyone in danger.
Holgrave Good
Played by J.D. Robinson
A mysterious, nomadic artist currently taking up residence in the house in exchange of labor for Hepzibah. Holgrave is seen toiling over his photographs in the excerpt, but is later revealed to be a descendant of the hanged witch who intergenerationally curses the house and Pyncheon family. His initial interrogations of Phillip stem from his writing a historical record of the family, unbeknownst to them..
